Campus Tour

Taishen is located on the slopes of Yangming Mountain, in the cultural heart of Taipei city. Because of its location overlooking the city, the campus offers sweeping views across Taipei and off to the horizon. To the west, in the distance is Mount Guanyin, and to the north are Mount Datun and Yangmingshan National Park. Being at a relatively high altitude, weather at the seminary has an average temperature 2–3 degrees lower than that in downtown Taipei. Our students also enjoy the clean mountain air. During the evenings students have a magnificent view out over the Taipei basin and can sit in the gardens or under the pergola and enjoy the beautiful night cityscape.

The seminary's extensive gardens are characterized by a plant distribution pattern typical of regions at middle and lower elevations, dominated by camphora and indigenous plants. Particularly special are our variegated coral trees, which are symbolic trees of the Ping-Pu tribe. The campus gardens contain more than 10 variegated coral trees over fifty years old. These are among the few, old native trees to survive in Taipei.

Due to his passion for flowers and trees, Dr Dickson also expanded the gardens with a great number of green maples, azaleas and Taiwan cherry trees. The seasonal bloom of flowers and the butterflies that they attract make the campus grounds a favorite destination for tourists and visitors throughout Taipei's flower season. The great variety of vegetation in the campus gardens also provides an excellent habitat for various bird and insect species, and forms the basis of a very rich ecological system. Seasonal changes also bring about a change in hue in the flora on campus, which creates a magnificent vista.
